This weekend’s Kentucky vs. Ole Miss matchup features a clash between two teams at very different points in their seasons. Ole Miss, currently 4-0, boasts the top-scoring offense in college football, averaging 55 points per game. Quarterback Jaxson Dart has been a standout, leading the nation with 1,554 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. Ole Miss has dominated its non-conference schedule and now faces its first SEC test, backed by a defense that has only allowed 12.5 points per game.
Kentucky, on the other hand, has struggled offensively in SEC play, averaging just 9 points per game in their two conference losses. Their defense, however, has been solid, allowing only 12.5 points per game and 74.8 rushing yards. The Wildcats will need that defensive toughness to slow down the explosive Ole Miss offense, but their own offensive struggles—especially through the air—make it difficult to see how they’ll keep pace. Kentucky’s quarterback Brock Vandagriff has managed only 158 passing yards in SEC games so far, and the Wildcats have turned the ball over too often. But if Kentucky’s defense shows up like it has, don’t be suprised if they pull off the upset.
